I blog, therefore I am

You know, I hate blogs. Not because they can be a valuable source of information. No I hate blogs because its been the hype of the last couple of years and as a result the Internet is filled with useless information or content which is outdated, wrong or copied for the 10th time from some other source.
Putting something on the Net used to be the work of ’nerds’; I was one of them in the early nineties.
It was magical to write something in a UseNet post, ask a question on a ListServ list or use tools like FTP and TelNet to share a document in a Gopher structure.
Today? It is all so darn easy.
The result is an Internet where it takes more and more time to search for the information you need. And less to find what you do not need.
And you know what? I am to blame for it, because I was one of those Internet Evangalists who didn’t care about being labeled a ‘nerd’ and lovelingly maintained the international AWARE ListServ community for eLearning professionals. Organised meetings for multimedia experts. And everywhere promoted the use of the Internet as a tool for sharing knowledge.
So why blog now? Well, it is time to share the knowlegde I required over the past decades. Or write it down because I couldn’t find it in a 10 minutes Google search. Or because I think my words are valuable enough to write down and be read by others who may learn from them.
I try and restrain myself and stick to topics like Internet History. eLearning. Tools I worked with, like Micrsoft SharePoint for the past years. Or tools and technologies which I think are interesting to be aware of.
That’s my first official Blog post done. Don’t expect another one soon
